Mrs. Oretta Burns Powers
Mrs. Oretta Burns Powers, 92, of Hamlet, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at her home.
Services will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010, by the graveside in Anson Memorial Park in Wadesboro with Rev. Randy Bishop officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service.
Oretta was born May 8, 1918, in Anson County, N.C., a daughter of the late William Franklin Burns and Fannie Jane Lewis Burns. She was retired from Pee Dee Oil Company and was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Hamlet.
Her husband, William Edward “Snappy” Powers, preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Stonewall "Jack" (Jewell) Jones, Jr., of Wadesboro and "Larry" Gene (Melinda) Jones of Indian Trail; her brother and sisters, Jerry Burns of Lake City, Tenn., Betty Burr of Wadesboro, Frankie Carpenter of Polkton and Joan Edge of Trinity; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 300 Charlotte St., Hamlet, N.C., 28345; or to Hospice of Richmond County, 1119 N US HWY 1, Rockingham, N.C., 28379.
