Mr. Nelson Bennett Black, 64, of Ansonville, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
     There will be a service to celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro, with Rev. W.T. “Bo” Treadaway officiating.
     The family will greet friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and other times at the Black family homeplace in Ansonville.
     Bennett was born October 16, 1945, in Anson County, N.C., a son of Mary Frances Aycock Black and the late Nelson Black. He retired from Murphy Farms as a truck driver.
     He was a master storyteller and was one who never met a stranger, having no problem striking up a conversation with anyone who would listen.
     Affectionately called “Brother”, “Speedy” or “Uncle Bubba” by his family and friends, gardening, wood-working and animals were among his great loves. He was especially fond of Draft horses and his faithful feline companions.
     Surviving are his wife, Sheila Jones Black; his sons, Wade (Minda) Setser and Kermit “Buck” (Jennifer) Black, both of Polkton; his grandchildren, Wesley, Hailey, Nikki and Kaitie; his step-children, Amberly Anderson of Penderlea, Adam and Abbie Rivenbark, both of Wallace, his mother, Mary Frances Black of Ansonville; his sisters and brothers, Judi B. (Mabon) Kimrey of Norwood, Martha B. (Johnny) Mullinix of Uwharrie, Nat (Carol) Black, Kent Black (friend, Carla) and David (Ann) Black, all of Ansonville, Susan B. (James) Keever and Robin B. (Donald) Shaver, both of Albemarle; his nieces and nephews and their families; and his extended Black and Aycock families. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Black.
